Marc Nolan’s Jasper – A Classy Commuter

When I stumbled upon the Instagram account of Marc Nolan Shoes in April I saw classics with a modern spin, their lineup clean and versatile. When I realized that the brand was Chicago-based, I knew I had to pay a visit.

After a few exchanges with Marketing Director Hannah Swank, I found myself at 1252 N. Milwaukee Ave., their Wicker Park brick and mortar. Founder and owner Sebastian Malczewski joined us.

Stepping Up

Established in 2017, Marc Nolan began as a labor of love dedicated to Sebastian’s son Nolan. The young yet on-the-up brand’s mission is threefold:

  1. Create a range of products that pair well with casual or formal wear
  2. Add a touch of luxury to a market saturated by athletic styles
  3. Bring European sensibility to the American market

Sebastian says he aims to make Marc Nolan the best men’s shoe store in Chicago by adding more styles, remaining committed to using high-quality materials and continuing to provide superior customer service.

After browsing his selection, I decided to test-drive the Jasper Wing Tip Sneakers in Black while exploring the city.

My Thoughts

First, the shoes are packaged nicely which tells me Sebastian has invested thought into the customer’s end-to-end experience. Each shoe comes in its own sleeve; each pair and box comes with a silver shoehorn.

Second, these shoes are incredibly comfortable. I wore them for hours on end touring the city with my camera and I saw and felt no sign of a blister.

Lastly, they retail at $115, true its mission of delivering value at a modest price.

The Verdict

I’d definitely recommend this shoe. I consider it “commuter casual” with a formal spin. A perfect shoe for the office and walks to and from the “L.”

Note: I may even spring for another pair as its available in three additional colors!

And if you’re looking for something other than the Jasper?

“The styles presented this season – both trend-forward designs and classic closet
staples – allow something for every taste. Sleek horse-bit loafers and burnished
leather Chelsea boots are offered alongside full brogue wingtip Derby shoes and
classic lace-up sneakers, while double monk strap slip-on sneakers and woven
leather Oxfords deviate from the standard menswear fare.”

Find all styles from lace-ups to loafers and more at If you’re in the Chicagoland area, do yourself a favor and stop by to meet with Sebastian, talk shop, and pick up a solid pair of kicks at a more-than-affordable price.
